Quest #3: Ilikua Outpost

 Yes, it's finally here after the long wait. Thank you guys for being so patient!
Just a tip for this one, because the enemies are tougher, I highly recommend roleplaying in the same comment chain so that you can help each other.

You slowly swim forward, shuffling along in the line of soldiers returning into camp after a long day's work. You're about to join them in the bunker when you hear murmering around a corner. You quietly sneak out of the bunker to see the 4 captains sitting over a table, with a large piece of parchment splayed in the middle.


"Brutus, her soldiers dealt with the last one, we cannot procrastinate any longer!" Cerith snaps. "We don't know what they're planning, but it's going to be big. The more of their outposts we destroy, the closer we get to their base camp and the secrets they're hiding from us. We're wasting time!" A nodding of agreement came from Kalei and Tampa.
"But Cerith, they've only been taught to kill phantoms! They won't stand a cha-"
Tampa cut him off. "Actually, Kalei and I took the soldiers down to 'at old coot's place in Crystal Reef. Ye' know, the one that fixes their armor? Turns out she knows a thing or two about combat. Taught em some tricks. I think 'ey should be alright down 'ere."
"But, but, they still need more training! We can't just.."
"..Brutus..."
"...and expect them to do perfectly fine! What if.."
"..Brutus..."
"...want that to happen, would we? We have to wait a little.."
"BRUTUS."
All 3 captains turned towards Kalei. "You're overreacting, calm down." she said with an unusual calmness to her tone,
"She's right, Brutus." Tampa muttered.
"What Cerith and Tampa are saying is true. We can't procrastinate on this any more. The Ilikua are planning something big, and the more time we waste, the more time they're spending putting this plan that could potentially harm every animal in Jamaa into action.", the Romantian captain announced. "The old blacksmith taught them some tricks, and 2 of us can accompany them to the outpost. They should be fine."
The Aquian captain grimaced. "No! As the captain of this brigade, I declare that this mission-" He was cut off by the Kelpian captain.
"You are not the captain of this brigade! Stop acting like you are superior to us! We are all equal ranks, and we all must come to a decision before it goes." Cerith shot back at him. "We shall take a vote. The more popular vote wins." Brutus hesitated for a moment, and then nodded reluctantly.
"Very well then." Cerith sneered, a small smirk forming on her face. "All in favor of this decision to raid the Ilikua Outpost say aye. Aye."
"Aye."
"Aye."
Brutus glared at the other 3 captains, being the only one of the 4 to stay silent.
"Alright then. All against this decision to raid the Ilikua Outpost say nay."
The entire captain's quarters was silent except for one.
"Nay." Brutus grumbled, knowing he was of the lesser vote.
"It has been decided." Cerith declared. "The soldiers will be sent to the aforementioned outpost to raid it, kill its inhabitants, destroy whatever is inside it, and overall render it useless, while her highness the Admiral's scouts scavenge for the main base. Meeting dismissed."
The captains nodded slowly and swam to their bunkers.

"Attention! Attention! All soldiers to the heart of camp!" the Romantian captain called. One by one, soldiers began flooding into the center of the bustling camp, some rubbing sleep from their eyes, others stretching, some yawning, others awake and ready to take off.
"I sure hope Brutus and Cerith cooled off from that argument last night." Tampa joked as they waited for the rest of the soldiers to come.
When almost the entire camp was filled with soldiers with their armor on, tridents raised, and some still yawning, the captains began their speech.
"Greetings, soldiers! We have recently recieved word from her highness the Admiral that her soldiers recently found an outpost inhabitated by the Ilikua. While her highness' scouts search for the main base, it is our duty to raid the settlement and destroy everything in it, including the Ilikua," Tampa announced. You and the rest of the soldiers roar with excitement and raise your tridents in the air. "Captain Kalei and I will accompany you. Whatever we say goes. We depart now, follow us!"

You lean against the rocks with the other soldiers, breathing heavily. Your first raid. You poke your head over the rocks to see it - a small temple guarded by walls of coral, surrounded by seaturtles wielding spears and armed in lionfish helmets similar to your own. Large coral slingshots - the same ones you saw on your first trip to defeat the phantoms - stick out from the coral walls. You see small turtles perched beside them, ready to shoot.
"How are we going to get into the temple, captain? It's swarming with guards." a soldier behind you asks. Kalei turns to face the entire group.
"There's too many guards outside for us to try and break in quietly. We're going to have to dive into their camp in a group and brawl our way in. Once we break through their defenses, the commander will surely call for reinforcements. We have to keep doing that until they've cleared out all the guard from inside the temple. Then, we go inside and destroy the temple." she announces. "Now are you ready?" she announces, answered by a roar of agreement from the soldiers.
"CHARGE!"

    Astoria swam with the crowd towards the camp. While swimming, she prepared for battle by charging up her wand.

    1. (Yes. And if you are on the brink of dying I can use my almighty god powers and make you not die)

      The rest of the soldiers flung themselves over the rocks and dive into the camp. Astoria looked to the side to see a few of them charging up the coral wall to destroy the large slingshots she had seen before - except this time they were being manned by slingmen. She continued to charge her wand up and bolted after them.

    2. Astoria hid herself within the moving crowd and carefully aimed a blast of magic at the slingman at the slingshot they were at.

    3. The slingman was knocked aside by the spell and two of the soldiers began to hack away at the slingshot. The slingman grabbed a whirlpearl from under its shell and took its handheld slingshot, continuing to fire the whirlpearl at Astoria, knocking her aside.

    4. Astoria fired spells at the whirlpearls that were fired at her, attempting to cause them to implode like they did before (reference to quest 1).

    5. The spell managed to hit the whirlpearl and it blew up, blasting both her and the turtle backwards. She grabbed her wand, which had fallen just out of her reach, and prepared to fire a spell again.

    6. Like an arrow, Astoria shot upwards and casted a spell at the turtle, intending to blast it downward and hit the rocks (if any).

    7. The dolphin whirred upwards and shot a spell downward. The slingman yelled in pain and was knocked away from the slingshot. In that moment, he grabbed his handheld slingshot again and fired a whirlpearl upward. It smacked directly into Astoria and blew up, sending her flying upwards.

    8. "Yeowch!" Astoria cried out. Nevertheless, she fired a spell at the stash of whirlpearls, hoping tp get at least one to explode and cause a chain reaction.

    9. She fired a spell that crashed into the small pile of whirlpearls the slingman had crouched against. One of them blew up, and then another, and another. In a large explosion, Astoria could just see his body flying off to lord knows where. Stifling a laugh, she could see the slingshot topple over and the soldiers begin to move towards the temple to join the rest of the group.

    10. Astoria rejoined the rest of the group, keeping an eye out for any more enemy turtles that beed to be dealt with quickly.

    11. The group moved forward surprisingly stealthily for the ruckus they had already caused. They peered around the corner of one of the walls outside the temple and saw three soldiers and two thugs patrolling a gap in the wall. It seemed they had already raised the alarm. Astoria began to charge her wand as the group burst out from behind their hiding spot to brawl with the turtles.

    12. Astoria charged towards the three soldiers and used mojo blast at them all.

    13. Raising her wand, a loud blast crashed into the group. Mojo Blast landed right smack dab in the center of the commotion and knocked several of the turtles backwards. Only two of them - a thug and a soldier - were stunned, and lay confused against a wall for a second. Astoria could see her chance now as the rest of the group continued to fight.

    14. Astoria raised her wand and fired a barrage of spells at the stunned soldier and thug.

      The storm of magic shot forward and pelted into the two. The thug turned and put one of his armoured fins in front of his face in an attempt to guard himself, while the soldier continued to be held against the wall.

    17. In the midst of her concentration, Astoria wasn't paying attention and yelped in pain as she was knocked aside. She looked up to see one of the Ilikua thugs standing above her, raising its spiked fin in aggression.

    18. Thinking quickly, Astoria shot downward and leftward to avoid the blow. She retaliated by shooting a spell at her attacker's face.

      Astoria's spell shot forward and left the attacker dazed. She looked to see a Stygian soldier approach from behind the thug and slam her trident down on his neck, stunning him and knocking him to the ground.

    20. Wand at the ready, Astoria swam closer to the stunned thug and took his spiked fin pads away, hoping that they would fit on her. At the same time, she charged up a spell in case he would try to attack her.

    21. The mystic examined the fin pad, only to see it was much too big for her, or any dolphin for that matter. It was clearly designed especially for turtles. She tossed them aside and began to charge up her wand, watching as the Stygian soldier who had helped her earlier raised her trident upwards, preparing to strike.

    22. Astoria charged up her wand, waiting for a cue from the Stygian soldier. She didn't want to ruin any battle tactic!

With a quick nod from her accomplice, Astoria brought her wand down with a slam and shot a pulse of magic forward just as the soldier cracked her trident down on the turtle's neck with a sickening crunch. Astoria's magic somehow bounced off the armour on the thug's shell and ricocheted backwards, hitting another approaching soldier right in the face.

      Mojo Blast can be used again in 2 turns.

    24. Astoria immediately whipped around to fire a spell at the approaching soldier's face. Diving downward, she fired a spell at the soldier's underbelly.

    25. She twirled around and tried to maneuver under the turtle. She shot a spell upward, but her grip slipped and it instead shot off to the side. The turtle jolted upwards and jabbed the spear downward, making contact with Astoria's tail.

    26. Astoria did a quick backflip, swatting the spear away with her tail. She retaliated by firing a spell at the turtle's fin.

    27. The spell hit the turtle's fin and knocked the spear out of his grip. He turned, about to move to retrieve it, but looked around in disorientation as the soldier who helped you earlier cornered him.

    28. Astoria looked at the soldier, waiting for the cue again.

    29. The Stygian soldier did a twirl and stabbed her trident into the turtle's side. Astoria, almost perfectly in sync, shot a storm of spells at the now wounded turtle. His body went limp almost instantly, and they all turned around to see the Stygian and Romantian captains ushering the group through the gap, now that the guards had been taken out.

    30. Astoria grinned, taking the spear from the guard she and the soldier took down. Then, she followed the rest of the dolphins through the gap.

    31. The group was nearly inside the temple at this point. There was just a little ways more to go. They swam quickly, maneuvering through the maze-like combination of walls until they found themselves cornered by a group of 5 soldiers and 2 slingmen.

    32. "Ugh, here we go again," Astoria thought to herself. She decided to take down the slingmen first by firing firing some spells in their direction.

    33. Astoria slammed her wand down, but the slingman she aimedat ducked and reeled back. It fired a small rock at her, hitting her in the face and knocking her backwards.

    34. "Its only a rock," she muttered. She pulled out her own slingshot, and used it to fire a whirlpearl at the slingman.

      Reeling back her own weapon, she shot a whirlpearl towards the slingman. He ducked and the whirlpearl shot over his head, instead hitting the wall behind him and causing a large painted pot to fall over with a loud "crash".

    37. Hearing the crash, Astoria got an idea. She pulled out her staff and shot multilpe spells around the slingman, hoping to distract him. Then, she dived downward and attempted to fire another spell at the face of the slingman from below.

    38. The slingman whirled around and moved about swiftly, dodging and weaving. Astoria fired a spell upward and knocked the slingman aside, watching as its body fell against a wall. She looked and saw 3 more soldiers appear from behind a wall. They must have heard the commotion.

    39. Astoria pulled out her slingshot again, and fired a whirlpearl at the group of soldiers.

    40. The whirlpearl shot forward and blasted 2 of them aside. The one that was lucky enough to dodge charged over to her and smacked her in the face with his spear, stunning her.

    41. "Yeowch!" Astoria let out a scream. Shaking off the pain, she pulled out her staff and retaliated by firing a poison lash at the soldier who attacked her.

    42. Poison Lash shot from the wand and hit the soldier in the chest. He recoiled and swung around, stabbing her in the chest once more. The other two behind him struggled up and were quickly attacked by other soldiers.

      The enemy has been poisoned. They will continue to take damage for 4 turns if the status ailment is not cured.

      Poison Lash can be used again in 10 turns.

    44. The soldier ducked and dodged the spells with surprising precision before whirling around and slicing the spear on Astoria's back. She recoiled and fell downward, stunned.

      The enemy has been poisoned. They will continue to take damage for 3 turns if the status ailment is not cured.

    45. "Owwww!" Astoria let out a cry of pain. Gritting her teeth and trying not to think of the injury she got, she tried to distract the soldier by firing spells at the surrounding rocks, then firing a spell at him for the attack.

    46. The soldier looked around wildly until the spell hit him square in the back. He coiled over, and with a final cough from the poison, collapsed on his front. Astoria looked around to see just 2 more soldiers fighting with the group.

    48. Astoria raised her wand up and then slammed it down on the ground. Mojo Blast landed right between the two enemies, both of whom were stunned and sent flying backwards.

    50. Astoria whipped around and fired at the soldier's face, but missed as the soldier ducked suddenly. He turned around and spun in a circle with his spear, hitting Astoria and the others around him.

    51. As the soldier spun, Astoria pulled out her piece of loose rope and swung it at the soldier, hoping to use his motion to tie him up.

    52. The small piece of rope served as a good distraction, but was too flimsy and small to do any good as a lasso. The soldier hissed in pain as it slapped his back and flipped his spear around, jabbing Astoria in the stomach with it.

    53. Astoria took the attack, grunting. She then used the close proximity of the soldier to fire a spell straight at his face.

    54. The soldier keeled over and collapsed as the spell hit him in his face. Astoria looked up to see the group moving through a corridor, one of the captains shushing them as they went.

    55. Tired from her last fight, Astoria panted to catch up with the rest of the group. Keeping her snout zipped, she followed the group through the corridor.

    56. The group said almost nothing as they shuffled along. They must be getting closer to the center. Suddenly, the two captains stopped when several racks of weapons came into view.
      "We've already announced our presence, hiding means nothing now. Try and keep it down, but if you see any weapons, supplies, or basically anything, try and break it." Captain Kalei said. On that whim, several soldiers surged forward and started to harshly dismantle the array of spears.

    57. Astoria swam around the area, looking for weapons to wreck.

    58. A few pots with spears and pieces of armour hanging out came into view on the corner of the approaching wall. Astoria swam over, the wood end of her staff at the ready.

    59. Tightening her grip on the staff, Astoria would fire barrage after barrage of spells at the weapons. If that fails, she would pull out her reinforced kunai and start slashing away.

    60. The mystic lifted her staff up and slammed it down, a small barrage emitting from the end of it and knocking over the first pot. Each pot begin to very loudly crash topple over onto the next in a very loud domino effect, but nothing seemed to be breaking yet.

    61. She then darted over to the toppled pots and began hacking away with her kunai.

    62. Taking the small, long-handled knife out of her satchel, she began to stab it into the now softened material the pots were made out of. They cracked very easily as the kunai clicked against them. She looked up to see the rest of the group moving slowly along.

    63. Astoria continued to use her kunai to hack away at the weaponries. At the same time, she kept an eye out for the rest of the troop to make sure that they were still there.

    64. Under the blade, the pot shattered into several large pieces. The mystic tucked her weapon away and began to move along with the group.

    65. Astoria kept her kunai, and silently followed the group to wherever they are going.

    66. After several minutes of moving through the corridors, the group stops at a large entrance leading into a big open space - the center of the temple. A large turtle decked out in full lionfish armour, a spiky bludgeon, and a spiked shield sits on a throne in the middle. Captain Kalei turns and addresses the group, whispering loudly but just quiet enough to not be spotted.
      "We take down the commander now. All of you," she said, gesturing to Astoria and most of the group, "will go in with Captain Tampa and fight - don't stop until the commander is defeated. The rest of us will stay here and hold off any reinforcements."
      She was answered by a simultaneous nod from the group. Everyone then turned and went their way, Astoria moving in with the group quickly approaching the commander.
      "Commander!" A Stygian soldier points their blade up at the turtle and announces loudly. "We have come to apprehend you! Surrender now or die by our blades!"
      The commander responded by grabbing his weapons and rising from his throne. He then clapped his fins together and, all of a sudden, a thick purple fog enveloped the area. The mystic stifled her coughing and looked around wildly as everything around her was consumed by the cloud. She inhaled sharply and readied her weapon, beginning to strike at the purple mist and find the commander.

      The effects of Trickster's Shroud will wear off in 3 turns.

    67. Gripping her staff in one fin, she used her other fin to fan away some smoke as she tried to look for the commander through all that smoke.

    68. The clouds dispursed around her slowly, and her head snapped to one side as she saw movement among the clouds. The commander or an ally soldier? She grabbed her staff and used it to help swat away the fog in the direction of the movement.

    69. Astoria was unsure if that thing she saw was the commander, or just another brigade soldier. Fixing her gaze in that direction, she picked up a few rocks and used her slingshot to shoot it in that direction. Immediately hiding behind some rocks to observe what would happen next, she hoped that it won't do too much damage.

    70. As the small stones pelted forth, they cut small lines of clear vision as they went. They seemed to be surprisingly effective and Astoria continued to fire slowly as she moved through the path she was creating. Her head shot up as she heard painful cries coming from the direction she was moving in.

      The effects of Trickster's Shroud will wear off in 1 turn.

    71. Astoria continued to fire the stones, albeit with much less force. She was afraid of hurting her own kind.

    72. As the stones fired forward, the fog slowly began to lift. Astoria heard coughing from around her and turned to see some soldiers choking and sputtering. They must have been poisoned from exposure to the fog. Out of the corner of her eye she spotted a large figure diving downward and slamming their bludgeoning weapon down on the ground, knocking several soldiers backwards. It must be the commander.

    73. Slamming her wand down, a burst of energy shot forward and hit the commander. They tried to put up their shield, but the impact went right through and stunned them as they crumpled to the ground in a daze.

    74. Continuing the onslaught, Astoria darted across the commander and waved her wand in a pendulum-like manner, casting lullaby.

    75. The mystic swung her wand around and cast her spell on the commander. Their eyes immediately got heavier, but they got to their feet and swung their bludgeon, knocking Astoria aside as she yelled out in pain.

      You are now bleeding (Severity 1). You will pass out in 8 turns if the status ailment is not cured.

      The enemy has been inflicted with drowsiness. They will fall asleep in 2 turns if the status ailment is not cured.

      Lullaby can be used again in 9 turns.

      Mojo Blast can be used again in 6 turns.

    76. Yelling out in pain, Astoria hurriedly swam behind a rock and used an antidote on herself, hoping that the commander is too drowsy to see her.

    77. Astoria hurriedly pulled the small flask out of her bag and ripped the top off, pouring the serum onto the wound. It stung a bit, but she saw the wound close up quickly. She took a deep breath and turned to see the commander looking around drowsily, but weapon still at the ready.

      The enemy has been inflicted with drowsiness. They will fall asleep in 1 turn if the status ailment is not cured.

      Lullaby can be used again in 8 turns.

      Mojo Blast can be used again in 5 turns.

    78. Astoria quietly swam behind the commander and hid herself behind some kelp. From there, she tried to fire a spell at the commander's fins, hoping that the force of the impact, combined with his drowsiness, will cause him to drop his weapon.

    79. The dolphin waved her wand and sent a spell their way. The impact wasn't quite enough, but knocked them forward just enough for them to fall asleep and be lulled into their sleep.

      The enemy has fallen asleep. They will remain asleep for 2 turns if the status ailment is not cured.

      Mojo Blast can be used again in 4 turns.

    80. Seeing the Commander fall asleep, Astoria heaved a small sigh of relief. She swam around, checking on her fellow brigade members, offering an antidote to anyone who needs it.

    81. The soldiers around her seemed to be fine, aside from the few who were swigging back their own antidotes to recover from the poison caused by the fog. The commander laid on the ground behind her, but Astoria could swear she heard them stirring.

      The enemy has fallen asleep. They will remain asleep for 1 turn if the status ailment is not cured.

      Lullaby can be used again in 6 turns.

      Mojo Blast can be used again in 3 turns.

    82. Astoria turned her attention to the commander, and began charging up her staff to unleash a blast of magic at the Commander's face as soon as he woke up.

    83. The dolphin raised her wand and felt its power pulsing as it charged. Her eyes stayed fixed on the commander and she trembled as their eyes shot open and they grabbed their weapon once more, rising up and charging towards her.

    84. "Let's go!!!!" Astoria suddenly swerved to the right to force the commander to turn. Then, she unleashed her pent-up magic at his face.

    85. The wand's energy was expelled all at once and blasted forward. It narrowly missed the attacker's belly, but was close enough to knock them off course. Grunting, they got up and charged towards her once again, bringing their bludgeon down on her back and stunning her.

    87. Astoria lifted her wand and fired Confuse Ray at the commander. They shook their head in disorientation and whipped around as their attacker came up on their rear, shoving her aside with the shield. Astoria yelped and coughed at the impact, stunned by having the wind knocked out of her.

    88. Astoria coughed as she tried to recover from the impact of the shield slamming into her. She tried to put some significant distance between herself and the confused commander to take a breath, and charged her staff up at ths same time.

    95. The mystic inhaled and cast lullaby on the commander. They began to grow weaker and weaker, and Astoria could tell it was not just from the spell. They exhaled as they charged forward, but narrowly missed the dolphin.

    96. Astoria remembered how the turtles' armour was resistant to ger spells back when they were trying to wreck the place. She figured that the commander's armour aould be the same. She pulled out her slingshot, and fired a whirlpearl at the commabder's armour, hoping to weaken it.

    97. Hurling it forward, the whirlpearl hit the armour and began to crack it slightly as it exploded. The commander recoiled from the force and stood up, bringing their weapon down on Astoria's back and stunning her.

    98. "Yeow!!" Astoria cried out in pain. She weakly swam away behind some rocks to wait for the commander to fall asleep before she threw another whirlpearl at him.

    99. The commander lulled off and collapsed. Astoria wound up and chucked a whirlpearl at the target, immediately, waking them up. She peered out from behind her hiding place and watched as the awakened foe looked up before its entire body seemingly went limp, falling to the ground.
      "The commander has been defeated!" Everyone turned to see Captain Tampa raising his trident in the air. "Let's go outside and destroy the base once and for all!"
      Astoria followed the group of quickly moving soldiers as they flooded out of the throne room and back into the corridors, making their way to the exit.

      Joyfully smashing any remaining racks or pots as they made their way through the hallways, Astoria saw a literal light at the end of the tunnel. The army began pouring out of the fortress and gathering at the pillars holding up the temple base.
      "On the count of 3, start destroying the base!" Captain Kalei yelled.
      "3!"
      "2!"
      "1!"
      Everyone began pelting whirlpearls and hacking away at the columns, explosions causing pieces of the architecture to chip away.
